What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms
Information you submit in our general contact forms is relayed to us via email but is not stored or kept in any central database. If you send us information an Artist Submission Form or Request A Globe form, we will save that information indefinitely to be able to contact you about the project. Any information you submit in an Artist Submission Form (except your email, phone number and address) may be published on the website as part of your artist profile.
Cookies
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to track website traffic, however none of the data we collect is tied to any individual personal profile. All data collected is anonymous.
Who we share your data with
If you fill out a “Request A Globe” form we ask you grant us explicit permission to share your address, email, and phone number with other project participants in order to facilitate delivery of a globe. If you grant us this explicit permission we may share your address, email, and/or phone number with another person.
If you submit a post, your username and any text or media you have submitted will be published on the website and made public.
If you make a donation, your data will be shared with our payment processor, Stripe, in order to complete the transaction.
Otherwise, we do not share any data we have collected with anyone.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
If you make a donation, your data will be shared with our payment processor, Stripe, in order to complete the transaction.
If you request an exported file of your data, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address we have on file. If the link in the email is clicked to confirm the action, a file of the personal information recorded in our database will be sent to the email address on file.
Additional information
How we protect your data
We use industry standard SSL encryption certificates to encrypt any information your submit on the website before it is sent to any server. We also use security firewall software on each website to prevent against brute force attacks and unauthorized logins. Administrative logins with access to user data are recorded and reviewed regularly.
What data breach procedures we have in place
In the event of unauthorized access to the site, we will immediately lock down the administrative area using an IP whitelist. We will then evaluate the extent of the breach, implement solutions to repair vulnerabilities, and generate a public report of the breach to be posted on the website.
What third parties we receive data from
We receive notifications of successful donation charges from our payment processor, Stripe. We receive notifications of mailing list signups including email addresses from our mailing list provider, MailChimp.
